Illustration Friday: Defend

When Illustration Friday posted that they weren’t sending out a topic this week, I went ahead and made up my own. I used the Random Word Generator to give me a topic. The word I got was “Defend”. Now, IF has posted a topic which is, of course, not “Defend”. But that’s cool. Just gives me another exercise to do over the weekend.

Anyway, here is what I came up with for my own Illustration Friday.



Stop Apologizing

I have a dirty secret. I LOVE popular music. You know what else I love? New Yorkers. And here’s why.

Two of my favorite songs right now are “Firework” and “Teenage Dream” by (cover your eyes) Katy Perry.

I was a Katy Perry virgin before I met my neighbor and good friend, J. Clearly I was missing out.

At least once a month J and I spend our Saturday afternoons driving to HomeGoods (new favorite store) in New Jersey. Most of these trips are accompanied by the Katy Perry Pandora station. If you happen to drive by us on such occasions, you’re likely to find us car dancing and singing our hearts out.

On one recent Saturday, crawling along in typical East Coast traffic, rain pounding on the windshield and “Firework” blasting through the speakers, I turned to her and said,

Confession #1: I don’t REALLY know what I am doing.

You’ve heard it before. You’re at a party, schmoozing with some new friends. They find out you’re a creative. Their first reaction:

“Cool, I can’t even draw a circle.”

Guess how many people have told me they can’t draw a circle. Now, take that number and multiply it by ten (and include my own husband in that list). Well, guess what? I can’t draw a perfect circle either. And what’s wrong with squares? Or triangles? How come circles get all the action?
